How do I book in with you?

You can book by heading over to the booking enquiry form at https://www.hayleyblackwoodtattoo.co.uk/booking/. When you get in touch, include what you’d like, roughly how big, and where it’s going. If you’ve got reference pictures, send those too. If it’s flash you’d like to book send a screen shot of the piece. Once we’ve talked it through, I’ll give you a quote, take a deposit, and confirm your slot.

What’s your deposit and cancellation policy?

I take a non-refundable deposit to secure your booking. If you need to move the date, let me know as early as possible and we can usually rearrange it. Cancellations made with less than 48hrs notice or no-shows will lose the deposit.

What ID do you accept?

You must be 18 or over to get tattooed. I may need to see valid photo ID — either a passport or a driving licence.

Do you take walk-ins?

Most of my work’s booked ahead, but if I’ve got space for walk-ins, I’ll post about it on my socials. Best thing to do is message before you travel — I’d hate for you to turn up and find I’m already tattooing. I’ll always do my best to fit you in especially for flash.

What payments do you take?

Before your appointment I’ll confirm how I take payment — usually cash or bank transfer. It’s always best to check in advance so there are no surprises on the day.

Can I bring my own design?

Absolutely. Bring your sketch, drawing, or ideas — I’ll make sure it works properly as a tattoo. Sometimes I’ll need to redraw or tweak it so it fits your body and lasts well over time, but I’ll always stay true to your idea.

How much will my tattoo cost?

It depends on the size, placement, and detail. Once I know what you want, I’ll give you a clear quote before we start.

Will you copy another artist’s design?

No — I won’t tattoo someone else’s custom artwork. If you’ve seen something you like, bring it as inspiration and I’ll create something original in that style.

Do you tattoo hands, fingers, neck, or face?

Only if we’ve discussed it properly first. Those areas can fade quickly, hurt more, and sometimes affect work opportunities. If you’re already heavily tattooed, it’s usually fine, but if it’s your first piece, we’ll chat before going ahead.

Can I use numbing cream?

If you’re thinking about it, let me know beforehand. Some numbing creams sold online aren’t approved in the UK and can cause skin reactions. If it’s something you want to try, you must do a patch test atleast 48 hours before. It’s important that you do your OWN research.

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Get a good night’s sleep, eat before you come, and drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol or drugs for at least 24 hours before your session — I won’t tattoo anyone under the influence. Wear comfortable clothes that give easy access to the area being tattooed.

Do you do cover-ups?

I love doing cover-ups, so yes. Obviously, I’d need to see what you hope to cover up first. I generally schedule a consultation beforehand.

Can I bring children or pets?

No under-18s in the studio and no pets — it’s not the right environment for them. Please arrange care before your appointment so you can relax and I can focus.

Can I bring a mate with me?

Sometimes that’s fine, sometimes not. It depends on the studio space and what I’m working on. If there’s room, one friend is usually okay, but please keep it calm — no crowds or distractions.

How do I look after my tattoo?

I’ll explain everything before you leave, but here’s the basics: keep it clean, don’t pick it, and use a proper aftercare product. Wash it gently with warm water and mild soap, pat it dry, and apply a thin layer of cream. Avoid soaking, sunbeds, or tight clothing until it’s fully healed.

What’s your lateness or no-show policy?

If you’re late, you might lose part of your session or need to rebook. No-shows lose the deposit automatically. Just let me know as soon as you can if you’re running behind — communication makes all the difference.

Can I get tattooed if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

No — I don’t tattoo anyone who’s pregnant or breastfeeding. It’s for your own safety and to avoid any health risks. Best to wait until you’re ready and it’s safe.

Can I go to the gym or swimming after getting tattooed?

Not straight away. Your tattoo’s basically an open wound for the first couple of weeks. Sweat, chlorine, or dirty equipment can cause infection or ruin the healing. Give it at least two weeks before hitting the gym or pool again.

Is it safe to get tattooed?

Yes — I use single-use sterile needles and professional-grade inks. The studio follows strict hygiene standards and is fully licensed. If you’ve got allergies, medical conditions, or skin issues, let me know before we start.

Can you tattoo over scars or stretch marks?

Generally, yes. It depends on how the skin’s healed and where it is. Flat, older scars are usually fine; raised or fresh ones might not be. I’ll need to see it in person before confirming.

Do you offer gift vouchers?

Yes — I do gift vouchers that can be used toward tattoos or deposits. They make great presents and follow the same booking and cancellation rules as normal sessions.

What if I need a touch-up?

If it needs tidying once it’s healed, I’ll sort it. I usually offer one free touch-up within a few months, as long as it’s been looked after properly. Just send me a photo first so I can see what’s needed.

Will you post photos of my tattoo?

I love sharing my work online, but I’ll always ask first. If you’d rather keep your tattoo private, just say so — no problem at all.

Can I go in the sun after getting tattooed?

Avoid sunbeds and direct sunlight until it’s healed. UV light fades fresh tattoos fast and can mess with healing. Once it’s settled, always use a high SPF sunscreen to keep the colours sharp.
